Giants vs. Browns score, results: Baker Mayfield leads Cleveland to comfortable win

There wasn’t much drama on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 15 as the Browns cruised to a 20-6 victory over the Giants.

Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield had another solid outing, completing 27 of 32 passes (84.4 percent) for 297 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came in the second quarter.

The Giants struggled without starting QB Daniel Jones; they were held to 295 yards of total offense. Jones’ backup, Colt McCoy, did about as well as could have been expected, completing 19 of 31 passes (61.3 percent), with no turnovers but also no touchdowns. The problem for New York was its inability to get anything going on the ground. Alfred Morris led the way with 39 yards on seven carries (5.6 yards per carry), while Wayne Gallman was held to 29 yards on nine carries (3.2 yards per carry).

The Giants left points on the board a couple of times in the first half. After Dion Lewis returned the opening kickoff to the Cleveland 48, New York opted to go for it on fourth-and-5 from the Browns’ 8 with a fake field goal that saw punter/holder Riley Dixon throw a pass that was intended for offensive lineman Nick Gates into triple coverage.

After the Giants’ defense forced its own turnover on downs, Graham Gano hit a 37-yard field goal to give New York a 3-0 lead. Later, trailing 7-3 in the second quarter, the Giants went for it on fourth-and-2 from the Cleveland 6, but Gallman was stopped a yard short. Cleveland marched 95 yards on 10 plays to take a 13-3 lead on a Mayfield TD pass to Jarvis Landry with 21 seconds left in the half.

With the win, the Browns (10-4) maintain their wild-card position in the AFC, tied with the Colts for the No. 5 seed and a game up on the Dolphins and Ravens with two games to play.

The Giants (5-9) missed a chance to move ahead of Washington in the NFC East and now need Washington (6-8) to drop at least one of its final two games to have a chance to make the postseason.
